The San Antonio franchisor's first Northeast location bets on a locally rooted owner to break into a caregiver-short, fast-aging market.

Caring Senior Service has opened its first Northeastern U.S. location, a West Hartford, Connecticut franchise owned by local caregiver Taniesha Thomas. The move brings the San Antonio-based non-medical home care franchisor, which has franchised since 2002 and operates more than 50 locations, into one of the country's most demographically acute senior care markets.
The Hartford metro's 65-and-older population reached 19.5% in 2024, above the national average, and the Census Bureau counts it among just three major U.S. metros where older adults now outnumber children. For a home care franchisor, that data makes West Hartford worth entering despite the operational difficulty of getting there.
Connecticut's home care sector already reports caregiver turnover of 30% to 50% annually, driven largely by low wages, and that shortage will determine whether the Hartford launch succeeds more than any marketing push does. Founder and CEO Jeff Salter is betting on local leadership to solve it: he chose Thomas, a Bloomfield native and former caregiver, specifically for her community ties rather than franchise experience alone.
Thomas enters a market already served by Comfort Keepers, Home Instead, and Visiting Angels, along with independent agencies with decades of local relationships. Her stated edge, accountability and personal attention, only holds up if Caring Senior Service can recruit and retain caregivers better than competitors facing the identical labor shortage, which is the real test facing this expansion.
