Mari Millard used to evaluate franchise performance for a living, as vice president of research at FRANdata. Her next pick is early education.

Millard and partner Marnie Hammel, an attorney, who together run 10 Two Maids locations, signed a three-unit area development agreement to open Tierra Encantada centers in Maryland, the Spanish immersion early education brand's first in the state, the company said Oct. 21. Founded in 2013, Tierra Encantada has 21 centers open and 47 more in development or under construction. It says centers open longer than 24 months average $2.6 million in unit volume.

The deal is another case of multi-unit owners spreading across unrelated categories, the same instinct behind PuroClean's push to recruit restaurant operators.
