Hilton opened 182 hotels totaling 27,000 rooms in the third quarter, for 23,000 net rooms added, the company said Oct. 27. CEO Christopher Nassetta called it Hilton's "highest quarter ever for organic openings." The pipeline stands at 3,869 hotels and 543,100 rooms, up 5% from a year earlier, with nearly half under construction. Franchise and licensing fees rose to $815 million from $739 million. Comparable RevPAR grew 5.8%, helped by the World Cup, and Hilton now projects 4% to 4.5% for the year.
The contrast with IHG, which signed 164 hotels while opening 92, is timing: Hilton's backlog is turning into rooms.
