The consolidator's acquisition of Davis Paint & Collision shows mid-sized buyers picking up deal volume as larger operators pull back.

OpenRoad Collision has acquired Davis Paint & Collision, a family-owned operator with three shops in the Oklahoma City metro, bringing OpenRoad's network to 40 collision repair centers across eight local brands. Davis has operated in Oklahoma City since 1990, giving OpenRoad an established, multi-decade reputation to integrate rather than a startup location.
The deal lands as acquisitions and shop openings among the industry's largest consolidators fell roughly 35% in the first half of the year compared to a year earlier, according to Focus Advisors. Mid-sized regional buyers like OpenRoad have stepped into that gap, continuing to acquire at a steady pace even as the biggest MSOs slow down.
Rather than rebrand Davis under a single OpenRoad name, the company keeps its family of local brands intact, a structure that preserves the trust an independent shop built with insurers and customers over decades. In collision repair, where direct repair program relationships with insurers take years to establish, that local brand equity is often worth more than folding into one national name.
For independent collision repair owners weighing a sale, OpenRoad's approach offers a middle path between staying independent and disappearing into a national brand. Operators who value keeping their name on the door, and the referral relationships attached to it, may find that structure more attractive than an outright rebrand, especially as insurer relationships and OEM certifications grow harder to build from scratch.
