Sotheby's International Realty has acquired Majestic Realty Holdings LLC, bringing eight previously affiliated Western U.S. brokerages under direct company ownership. The collective closed more than $13.5 billion in sales last year and ranked 19th nationally by sales volume, giving Sotheby's a much deeper foothold in luxury resort and mountain markets.

A Familiar Playbook in Real Estate

The deal follows a string of similar moves this year, including Real Brokerage's acquisition of RE/MAX and Century 21's overseas expansion, as national brands buy up their own top-performing affiliates instead of just collecting franchise fees. For multi-unit brokerage owners, it signals that scale and balance sheet strength increasingly beat brand loyalty alone.

Leadership and Culture Stay in Place

Majestic's existing leaders, Scott Webber and Thomas Wright, will keep running the collective's operations, and the company says local branding and agent relationships will carry over. That continuity matters for franchise operators watching how corporate buyers treat legacy teams after a sale.

Why Operators Should Watch This Deal

Majestic gains access to Compass International Holdings' Home Platform through the Sotheby's network, plus more than 40 new-construction and master-planned community projects already in its pipeline. For independent brokerage owners weighing their own exit or affiliation options, the deal is a data point on what top operators can command when they sell.
