VIO Med Spa has signed its first New York City franchise agreement, opening a location in Queens under medical director and co-owner Dr. Arjun Mehta, a triple board-certified dermatologist and dermatopathologist. The deal extends a run of more than 18 new franchise agreements the Nashville-based brand has signed in 2026 alone.

A Physician, Not Just An Investor, In The Ownership Seat

Mehta trained at USC and the University of Calgary, practiced in Vancouver, and joined Northwell Health in New York in 2025 before deciding to buy into VIO rather than open an independent cosmetic dermatology practice. He said patients searching for aesthetic treatment gravitate toward a name they already trust, which is the specific reason he chose a franchise over building his own brand from scratch.

Why Queens, And Why Now

The market entry follows a string of 2026 expansion deals for VIO in Richmond, Atlanta and Prosper, Texas, the last tied to a former Meta executive's acquisition of existing Texas locations. VIO now operates 65 locations across 20 states with more than 175 territories open, sold or in development, and the brand is actively recruiting physicians and multi-unit operators from hospitality, fitness and healthcare-adjacent backgrounds rather than treating cosmetic dermatology experience as a prerequisite.

What It Signals For The Med Spa Category

A board-certified dermatologist choosing a franchise over solo practice is a data point for a category that has drawn heavy private equity interest, including Freeman Spogli's 2024 majority stake in VIO. It suggests brand recognition and operational support are starting to outweigh the appeal of full clinical independence for at least some physicians entering aesthetics.
