Franchise TimesFranchisee-Owned Byrider Targets First Unit Growth in Years
Two years after six operators bought the used car franchisor from its private equity owner, Byrider says the rebuild is done and expansion is next.
The dog training franchisor halted new sales in late 2025 to rebuild support and systems, and two quarters of double-digit comps followed.

Zoom Room Dog Training stopped selling franchises in late 2025 to fix its existing system. Two quarters later, systemwide same-store sales are up 18.2% year over year, and the brand is selling territories again.
Same-store sales rose 12.0% in Q2 and 18.2% in Q3 across the 45-plus unit system. Franchisees open more than a year posted 15.1% growth across the combined Q2 and Q3 period. COO Don Allen says the gains came without deep discounts or promotions, which matters because discount-driven comps tend to fade once the offers stop.
The company brought in former Petco CEO Ron Coughlin as chairman, along with new training and franchise development leaders. It expanded its franchisee support team, built custom operations and marketing technology, and rewrote its franchise management processes. Put simply, it rebuilt the support center before asking new owners to buy in.
Zoom Room sells ongoing group classes and structured socialization instead of one-off training packages. That turns dog training from a transaction into a recurring visit, the same membership logic that powers boutique fitness. Recurring visits raise customer lifetime value and make revenue more predictable for owners.
Pausing development costs a young brand fee income and momentum, so few choose it. Zoom Room's results argue that fixing unit economics first produces a stronger sales story later. Development has resumed with new markets in Florida and Virginia, and prospects can now validate against real comp growth instead of projections.
