Dentalcorp, Canada's largest dental support organization, has acquired Northstar Dental Partners, a 21-clinic practice group spanning South Florida, the Treasure Coast, Southwest Florida and Central Florida. The deal marks Dentalcorp's first expansion outside Canada and brings its total supported practices past 650.

A New Player in an Already Crowded Market

Dentalcorp now competes directly with established US dental support organizations including Heartland Dental, Aspen Dental, Pacific Dental Services and Dental Care Alliance. Northstar founder Dr. Jordan Tomalty will keep an ownership stake and stay on, a structure Dentalcorp uses to let practice owners cash in equity while retaining clinical control.

Why the Timing Matters

Dentalcorp itself went private in January after GTCR-backed funds bought the company for roughly $2.2 billion Canadian, freeing it to pursue acquisitions without quarterly earnings pressure. For dental practice owners weighing a sale, a well-capitalized new buyer entering the market from outside the usual roster of US consolidators adds a fresh option and, potentially, upward pressure on multiples.

The Read for Franchise and Practice Groups

Dental support organizations operate more like managed franchise networks than classic franchising, but the consolidation logic is identical: centralize back-office support and purchasing while owners keep clinical autonomy. As cross-border deals like this one accelerate, expect more foreign-backed platforms to test the US market through a single beachhead acquisition before scaling regionally.
