Guardian Dentistry Partners has signed a definitive agreement for a majority acquisition of Select Dental Management, a dental partnership organization with 38 locations across eight states and Washington, D.C. The deal adds more than 130 dentists and 720 team members to Guardian's network and is expected to close before the end of the third quarter, extending Guardian's reach into New Jersey, New York, Connecticut and several other Northeast markets.

Two DSOs Built on the Same Ownership Model

Both companies run as dental partnership organizations that give dentists equity and a voice in clinical decisions, rather than the fully corporate structure common at larger roll-ups. Select Dental Management grew its EBITDA 115 percent from 2022 to 2024 while holding practice-level margins near 20 percent, evidence the co-ownership model can scale without eroding the economics that keep dentists engaged.

A Bet on Regional Density

The acquisition concentrates Guardian's footprint in the Northeast, one of the country's most competitive and expensive dental markets. For multi-location dental groups, regional density cuts recruiting, marketing and back-office costs in ways that scattered locations across many states cannot, and it gives Guardian more leverage when negotiating with suppliers and insurance networks.

What It Signals for Dental Consolidation

Dental service organizations built around dentist ownership are increasingly absorbing smaller peer platforms rather than buying up independent practices one at a time. Operators watching the space should note that scale is now coming through DSO-to-DSO mergers as often as direct acquisitions, a shift that changes who the likely acquisition targets are over the next few years.
