The day spa franchise is folding medical aesthetic treatments into its 90-plus locations, giving franchisees a new revenue line inside their existing footprint.
The country's largest independent brokerage is partnering with Maine's top independent firm, extending its footprint to 18 states without a rebrand.

Howard Hanna Real Estate Services is entering Northern New England for the first time through a strategic partnership with Portside Real Estate Group, Maine's top independent brokerage. Portside keeps its own name and local leadership while gaining access to Howard Hanna's technology, marketing and national referral network. The deal extends Howard Hanna's reach to 18 states and more than 500 offices. Portside closed 2,090 transaction sides worth $1.33 billion in sales volume last year, ranking No. 239 nationally by volume.
Rather than acquiring Portside outright, Howard Hanna structured this as an affiliate partnership, the same model it used when it absorbed Allen Tate in 2018 before eventually rebranding that firm. For independent brokerages facing pressure to scale or align with a bigger platform, this structure offers a middle path: keep the brand and local decision-making, but plug into national infrastructure.
The partnership gives Portside's 225-plus agents access to healthcare and 401(k) options, benefits that are rare for independent-contractor real estate agents and increasingly used as a recruiting tool. Howard Hanna is betting those benefits pull talent away from competitors across New England without forcing agents to give up their independent-contractor flexibility.
The deal lands amid heavy consolidation in residential real estate, with Compass completing its acquisition of Anywhere Real Estate and Real Brokerage merging with RE/MAX in an $880 million deal earlier this year. For multi-office independents watching those moves, Howard Hanna's affiliate model is a lower-risk way to gain scale benefits while sidestepping a full sale.
