A franchise consultancy that has guided 600-plus brands into franchising took a minority investment from a decade-long capital partner, giving that partner permanent board influence.

SMB Franchise Advisors, a Doylestown, Pennsylvania consultancy that has guided more than 600 companies through franchising since 2009, has taken a minority investment from the principals of Navigator Partners. The deal formalizes a decade-old working relationship between the two firms into a permanent seat on SMB's board.
Navigator first backed an SMB client, K9 Resorts Luxury Pet Hotels, in 2016, and has since co-invested alongside SMB's Stadium Ventures arm in brands including Almera Tech Services, Pure Sweat Studios and Story Time Chess. That history is why the new deal reads less like an outside firm buying in and more like two partners making an existing arrangement permanent.
Founder Steve Beagelman and Chief Growth Officer Brian Luciani keep running day-to-day operations, and Navigator's Bernard Markey and William Stewart join a newly formed board rather than taking operating control. For SMB's client franchisors, the practical shift is capital and capacity: more resources behind the advisory and development work SMB already sells to brands trying to scale through franchising.
SMB doesn't franchise anything itself, but it shapes how emerging brands structure their franchise systems long before those brands sign their first franchisee. A better-capitalized SMB means more emerging concepts get professional development work instead of building a franchise program on guesswork, which is where a lot of early-stage systems run into trouble. Markey and Stewart also co-founded FirstLight HomeCare, giving the new board operating experience building a franchise system, not just advising on one.
