Two experienced multi-unit franchisees are bringing the Spanish immersion early education brand into Maryland for the first time.

Tierra Encantada has signed a three-unit area development agreement with Mari Millard and Marnie Hammel, bringing the Spanish immersion early education brand to Maryland for the first time. The deal adds a fourth state to the operators' growing multi-unit portfolio, which already includes 10 locations of the Two Maids cleaning franchise.
Millard spent years as vice president of research at FRANdata, the franchise analytics firm, before becoming an operator herself, giving her an unusually informed view of which brands hold up under multi-unit ownership. Hammel, an attorney by training, rounds out a partnership built on legal and financial discipline rather than prior childcare experience, a pattern increasingly common among operators entering premium early education.
Tierra Encantada centers open more than 24 months are averaging $2.6 million in annual unit volume, a figure that helps explain why experienced operators keep adding territories instead of chasing single-unit deals. The brand now has 21 centers open and 47 more in development, and Maryland's dense concentration of dual-income households makes it a logical next market for a tuition-driven concept.
Area development agreements signed by operators with no prior childcare background are a signal that early education franchising has matured past the founder-operator stage. For franchisors in the space, recruiting operators who already understand multi-unit economics, even from unrelated categories, may prove more valuable than recruiting educators.
