Unleashed Brands has appointed James Franks chief franchise officer, handing him development across its entire portfolio. That portfolio spans The Little Gym, Sylvan Learning, Snapology, Class 101, Premier Martial Arts, Urban Air and Water Wing Swim School. Franks ran franchise recruiting at the company from 2019 to 2025 before a stint leading growth at WellBiz Brands, so he returns already knowing the system.

The Platform Bet

Unleashed operates as a platform, meaning its brands share technology, data, supplier deals and franchisee support instead of building those functions separately. One development leader over all of them lets the company cross-sell concepts to existing owners and reuse the same recruiting machine across categories. The logic is direct: shared overhead spread across eight brands lowers the cost of growing any single one.

What It Means for Franchisee Economics

When support, marketing and purchasing sit at the platform level, individual owners can reach tools that a standalone children's brand could rarely afford. That can lift margins and shorten ramp time, which is the pitch Franks will carry to candidates. The risk is dilution, because a platform serving many brands has to prove each one still gets focused attention.

The Multi-Unit Angle

Platform franchisors increasingly court operators who want more than one concept under a single relationship. An owner could pair a tutoring center with a swim school and rely on one support team, smoothing seasonal swings in demand. Franks said he plans to push cross-brand opportunities, which points squarely at building larger, multi-brand operators rather than single-unit buyers.
