Multi-Unit Operators Turn Real-Time Data Into Daily Decisions

Large franchisees like Kumar McDonald's and Team Bailey now run labor, pricing, and marketing off live dashboards instead of last month's reports.

Restaurant operators have more performance data than ever, and the biggest multi-unit franchisees now use it to make calls during the shift rather than after it. At a recent Franchise Update roundtable, operators running everything from 19 McDonald's to 160 Domino's units described data as a daily tool, not a monthly report. The shift matters because a decision made in real time protects both margin and service before the damage is done.

Labor Scheduling Moves to the Shift

Kumar McDonald's, a 19-unit operator, uses live analytics to forecast labor and match staffing to demand patterns, which cuts service times when traffic spikes. Team Bailey, which runs 160 Domino's units, watches labor performance and sales trends through the day so managers can adjust before a slow stretch turns into lost margin. The common thread is speed, because the sooner an operator sees the number, the cheaper the fix.

Pricing and Marketing Get Local

Operators said live dashboards let them set prices by watching how guests actually respond instead of guessing. They also aim promotions at local behavior rather than running one offer across every store, which raises the return on each marketing dollar. For a multi-unit operator, that precision compounds across the whole portfolio.

What This Means for Franchisees

The operators who gain the most are the ones who built the habit of reading the data, not just collecting it. Dashboards and AI platforms only pay off when managers act on them mid-shift, so the real investment is training the floor to use them. Franchisees still working off after-the-fact reports are leaving efficiency, and money, on the table.
