Sola Salons signed 22 new units in the third quarter, its strongest quarter for franchise signings in three years, the Denver-based company said Oct. 13.

The deals cover Boise, Phoenix, Dallas, Chicago, and the Westchester County, N.Y., and Fairfield County, Conn., suburbs, plus a sixth location for existing owners in the San Fernando Valley. Most went to new franchisees buying multi-unit packages, including six-unit agreements in both Phoenix and Dallas.

Sola also opened four studios during the quarter, bringing the system to 759 locations and 11 openings so far this year. The model offers turnkey private studios to independent stylists and other beauty pros (more than 22,000 of them, by Sola's count), which makes each signing as much a real estate bet as a beauty one.
